You no longer need to make an appointment to visit the exhibitions in gallery EXboot. The former prostitution boat on Nijverheidskade now exhibits the work of Annï Mertens. She plays with ceramics, wood, plaster, concrete and a healthy dose of humour, blurring the line between solid and porous, between delicate and coarse material. Nonsense and optimism come together in her sculptures, influenced by public places such as swimming pools and playgrounds. Nothing is what it seems…
Done with checking out Mertens’ work? Then head for a drink in the Nijverheidscafé, that opened its doors again. It’s great in good weather, as it has a spacious terrace on the water.
