4 May is Remembrance Day in the Netherlands. At 8 p.m. the Dutch observe a two-minute silence to commemorate everyone who died in World War II and subsequent war situations. People in restaurants and bars are silent too. The next day, 5 May, is Liberation Day. This is a day of celebration and music. The Bevrijdingsfestival in Transwijk Park is the ideal place to watch live performances by mainly Dutch artistes, including DJ Fedde Le Grand, who is coming to Utrecht for the occasion. Admission is free.
