Zijdebalen used to be a famous Dutch silk factory set on an illustrious estate. The gardens were pure heaven, with avenues of trees, formal hedges, a maze, a playhouse, ponds and statues. Later, the Lubro bread factory moved into this spot on the Vecht River, but it is now a modern urban development project boasting around 500 houses. In the district, on Jongeneelwerf, you’ll also find a brand-new catering pavilion. It is home to Ddadi, a tasteful café-restaurant where you can have breakfast, lunch or dinner.
