It’s much more fun wandering around Utrecht on a sultry summer evening licking an ice-cream if you know a little about its history. Our history lesson starts in the Utrecht Archives. The exhibition Utrecht starts here is a compilation of highlights from the city’s 2,000-year history: you discover how the canals and wharfs evolved, what caused the first traffic jam and what went on at the very first edition of the Lowlands music festival. This last exhibit may help to soften the blow of a summer without festivals. Make sure to book a ticket (by phone) before you go.
> Tuesday to Sunday, Het Utrechts Archief (Hamburgerstraat 28)
