This exhibition teaches you about two utopian building projects with a turbulent history: the Kanaleneiland district and Hoog Catharijne in the centre of town. Both projects were presented as the perfect solution to the problems facing Utrecht at the time. Kanaleneiland would solve the housing shortage and Hoog Catharijne the traffic problems. Unfortunately, within ten years, both projects had caused more problems than they had solved. What can we learn from this to help us resolve our current problems, such as sustainability dilemmas and ongoing housing shortages?
