The Museum Oud Amelisweerd, just outside Utrecht, pays ode to flowers this summer. The history of flowers in the art world is depicted through a whole range of disciplines – from (scientific) water colours, antique vases, crockery and fashion, to religious artefacts, musical clocks with flower patterns and paintings. The oldest objects date back to the early 17th century, an era in which people started to take an interest in botany, and still life paintings of flowers became an autonomous genre.
