The career of the Surinamese singer-songwriter Jeangu Macrooy is something of a rollercoaster: his debut album ‘High On You’ was nominated for an Edison (a prestigious Dutch music award) and he was a huge hit at various festivals, including Lowlands and North Sea Jazz. His second album ‘Horizon’, a mix of soul and pop with hints of jazz and gospel, has also been given the seal of approval by the music critics. In May, Macrooy will be representing the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam.
