Utrecht celebrates Sint Maarten in early November. He is the patron saint of Utrecht and you’ll see references to him throughout the city. According to the legend, Sint Maarten was so moved by the plight of a beggar that he cut his expensive cloak in two and gave the beggar one half, keeping the other half himself. The festive Sint Maarten Parade through the city centre, which features an illuminated horse, starts at 18.30 on Saturday 5 November.
