Garba Touré, guitarist of the African ‘desert blues band’ Songhoy Blues, was forced out of northern Mali by jihadists in 2012. He took his guitar when he left, and later decided to make music that reminded him of his home country to help him and other refugees come to terms with their displacement. It’s get-up-and-dance music, despite his eventful life story.
