2017 marks the 100th anniversary of the art movement De Stijl. Several places in Utrecht boast connections with Gerrit Rietveld, one of the main proponents of this movement. Most people have heard of the Rietveld Schröderhuis, but there are plenty of other locations scattered around the city. Take the house in which Rietveld was born on Ooftstraat, for example, or his workshop on Adriaen van Ostadelaan. Utrecht Central Museum has devised a special route that takes you past various Rietveld locations. If you don’t fancy walking, you can do the route by bike. Details of this route can be downloaded via anwb.nl/fietsroutes. To find out more about Rietveld’s life and work, visit the ‘Rietveld’s Masterpiece: Long live De Stijl!’ exhibition in Utrecht Central Museum.
