In the Centraal Museum this summer: assemblage art by Jessica Stockholder (1959). This American artist has been making waves with her installations since the 1990s. She assembles all kinds of everyday objects, from umbrellas and cushions to stools, lamps and washing baskets, and transforms them into overwhelming, brightly coloured entities. Stockholder tries to overcome our standard perspective of the day-to-day objects and materials that surround us and reverse our ideas about what is valuable and what is worthless.
