Jessica Stockholder, Lay of the land (2014)

The American artist Jessica Stockholder (1959) has been making a name for herself since the 1990s with installations which combine ordinary everyday objects (from umbrellas and cushions to stools, lamps and washing baskets) to create an overwhelming, colourful entity. Stockholder uses her assemblage art to challenge our standard view of the objects and materials around us and overturn our ideas about what is valuable and what is not.
