The two young German filmmakers Hans and Moritz managed to gain access to the people with the thankless task of deciding what can and cannot be posted on Facebook. The whole world is scanned from an anonymous office block somewhere in the Philippines. Often with no knowledge of other cultures, history, politics or sex, the ‘cleaners’ try to enforce the protocols as best they can. The disturbing similarities between Facebook and George Orwell’s 1984 gradually become apparent. The implications are horrendous, particularly in countries where internet is synonymous with Facebook.
