DE KOPPELAARSTER (1625), GERARD VAN HONTHORST, PHOTO BY CENTRAAL MUSEUM UTRECHT / TOM HAARTSEN

At the start of the Golden Age, Rome was the centre of the world. Budding painters from across Europe were drawn to the city where – it was rumoured – Caravaggio was causing a revolution. Work by the Utrecht ‘caravaggists’ Dirck van Baburen, Hendrick ter Brugghen and Gerard van Honthorst is on display until 24 March, along with a top piece by Caravaggio himself.
