Throwback: 1983 - Bakkerstraat

A street musician is allowed to perform for a maximum of fifteen minutes at the same spot, the new location can’t be on the same square, narrow shopping streets are off-limits and amplifiers are not allowed. These are just a few of the rules that buskers, like the multi-instrumentalist in this photo, have had to follow for decades now. Whether these rules are too strict is currently being debated at the political level. Relaxation of the rules seems unlikely, as the number of complaints in the city centre has been increasing in recent years.
