During the exhibition ‘Meat My Flesh’ at the exhibition space ‘de Tunnel,’ Utrecht-based artist Alisa Osinga invites you into a world of gluttony and excess within a theatrical showpiece room, where the role of animals in our human world takes center stage.

In the festive month of December, Alisa presents her latest work, where visitors enter a Christmas dinner scene that has just witnessed a true feast, with only the remnants testifying to what took place. Through a combination of ceramic and photographic artwork, the scene comes to life, confronting the visitor with the question: What is the difference between Meat and Flesh, between Animal and Human? Both are flesh and blood, yet one consumes while the other is consumed.

Alisa Osinga draws inspiration from hunting and still life paintings of the 17th century, translating it into the modern era: the Christmas dinner has become the ultimate way to flaunt our food. The underlying emotions involved are complex: everything must be perfect and in harmony, while underlying tensions may exist.

Her work comprises ceramic animals in a world of excess, flowers, and decay. Alisa is fascinated by the intricate and multifaceted relationship between humans and animals. Beneath the attractive, colorful, glossy ceramics, a second layer of discomfort and emotion is always tangible. This prompts questions and encourages a closer look, urging contemplation on how we can shape the relationship between humans and animals in a respectful and ethical manner.
