Eggshibition at VOGELFREI

On Easter Saturday, March 30th, there will be a new edition of Eggshibition at VOGELFREI on Nijverheidsweg. In this artistic exhibition, thirty ostrich eggs painted by artists from Utrecht will be displayed. Additionally, we will celebrate the arrival of spring together with the annual release of the spring beer from Brewery ‘t IJ: PaasIJ, accompanied by music, performances, and an afterparty at NAR Café der Kunsten.

For this edition, a beautiful selection of Utrecht artists has been invited, curated by Oscar Larik, owner of Galerie Larik and NAR Café der Kunsten: “An egg is a very peculiar object. Many artists typically work on flat surfaces and are truly challenged by the round shape. This ensures that both established artists and emerging talents eagerly participate in the exhibition.”

Some confirmed names for this edition include: Wim Hooghwinkel, Marjolijn Witte, Michiel ten Bokum, Lou Vos, Thijs Vogel, Cecilia Rebergen, Jop Vissers Vorstenbosch, Hans Dillesse, and Marin Hondebrink. They will each work on a new ostrich egg specifically for this exhibition. Additionally, eggs by Max Kisman, Guido de Boer, Daantje Bons, Jan is de Man, Joyce Overheul, and many other artists will be on display.

A great start to the Easter weekend

“After the success of last year, we’re taking it up a notch this year,” says Joris Roovers, founder of VOGELFREI. “That’s why this year, we’re also involving a part of the Havenloods square. There will be a three-meter-high egg where a live artwork will be created, and there will be fringe programming from 14:00 to 22:00 with various types of music, performances, delicious food, and of course, craft beer from Brewery ‘t IJ. Following that, there will be a party at the NAR from 22:00. In short, it’s a unique event to kick off your Easter weekend.

Space for creative talent 

This year, one ostrich egg will again be made available for students/recent graduates of HKU, the largest art academy in the Netherlands, through an open call. This allows Eggshibition to provide young talent with the opportunity to present themselves on a prestigious platform.

Eggshibition 2024 starts on Saturday, March 30th, from 12:00 to 22:00 at VOGELFREI on Nijverheidsweg 6 in Utrecht. Admission to the event is free. Tickets will be sold for the afterparty.
