The adventurous jazz duo Vega Trails is a project by double bassist Milo Fitzpatrick, founder of the Portico Quartet. Together with saxophonist Jordan Smart (Mammal Hands, Sunda Arc), he made the album Tremors In The Static in 2022, on which the pair manages to make the most of minimalist jazz: each track sounds like a meditative conversation between two instruments. Vega Trails’ second album Sierra Tracks will be released on 7 March 2025, for which Fitzpatrick was inspired by his new home, the foothills of the Sierra de Guadarrama mountains in Spain.
