Kalpanarts: Triple Vision

This triple bill features a remake of two duets (“Tara” and “Fluid”) and a brand-new solo (“Whisper”). The duets premiered online during the coronavirus pandemic, and now they’re finally going on tour. The three pieces showcase Kalpanarts’ core values: bringing together different styles and disciplines and placing Indian culture in a contemporary context. Each work explores themes such as tradition and modernity, personal and societal narratives, and the dynamics between culture and identity.  

“Whisper” delves into the medical care system. The solo depicts the struggle to be taken seriously within a system that doesn’t always listen. “Tara” explores the cosmic pull of dance and music, combining Indian classical dance forms with powerful rock sounds. “Fluid” challenges the boundaries of masculinity and strength by merging the energetic movements of breakdance with the emotional depth of Indian song.
