Alicia Hofstra: The Altar

The Altar is a textile installation that explores the Alicia Hofstra’s relationship with the concept of ‘worship.’ The work incorporates numerous references to their past within Protestantism, alongside personal hyperfixations, which are presented as alternative forms of devotion. Drawing inspiration from the overwhelming visual richness of castles and ornately decorated churches, the installation seeks to immerse the viewer in a similarly intense atmosphere. Viewers are invited to navigate this eclectic altar and reflect on their own position within it.

Alicia Hofstra (born April 15, 2003) is a textile artist and a graduate of HKU Fine Art. She lives and works in Wassenaar, where receiving the Wassenaar Culture Prize in 2020 gave her an early boost into the art world.
