The Last Seed

THE LAST SEED, FILM SCREENING AND DIALOGUE WITH ONE OF THE PRODUCERS, FAMARA DIEDHIOU (IN ENGLISH)

The conventional global food system is reaching its limits; therefore, significant changes are needed in the agri-food system. During the Food.Film.Fest – a film festival organized by Food Otherwise (Voedsel Anders), supported by local groups, organizations, and volunteers – documentaries will be screened in many Dutch and Flemish municipalities about how food can be different. We are joining in with the screening of ‘The Last Seed’.

“The Last Seed” (2022, Andréa Gema – South Africa / Senegal / Tanzania / Switzerland – 2022 – 77 min) shows the struggle of African farmers for the preservation of their food sovereignty and local biodiversity. The documentary illustrates how the industrialization of agriculture and the privatization of seeds threaten traditional knowledge, ecological balance, and the autonomy of farmers. African farmers and experts defend themselves and fully commit to agro-ecological practices to ensure the future of their (and our) food. Because those who control the seeds, determine how agriculture can be practiced.
