‘DAWG’ offers a unique physical and spatial experience by combining hypnotic film footage with experimental electroacoustic techniques.

On film you see dogs who run whilst being filmed from an ‘en face’ perspective. The camera moves along with the dog’s head. The Pitbull shots are alternated by shots of skipping stones, extremely slowed down, creating a hypnotizing character.

By motorising seven drums through electromagnets, the drums function as acoustic speakers. Acoustic instruments require a physical space, the vibrations are tangible and provide the sound with a tactile aspect.

About the artist:
Seamlessly, Inne Feenstra manipulates the viewer’s expectations of movement, time, image, and sound. Through his kinetic video installations, he delves into the essence of film and explores the relationship between the camera and the human eye.

Feenstra constantly plays with the viewer’s environmental awareness, both within the space of the film and in the space surrounding the film. His work unfolds amid this dual physical consciousness.

Feenstra uses familiar objects in his work, yet rarely incorporates human characters. By leaving human appearance, text, or voiceovers out, Feenstra removes his work from a direct narrative expectation. Simultaneously, he plays with the viewer’s expectations.

This results in an intriguing duality, in which the meaning of objects and situations constantly shifts and embodies an ambiguous character.  Inne Feenstra (2001) lives and works in The Hague. Next year, Feenstra will participate in the two-year postal academy called De Ateliers.
