UJazz, ZenneZ records and TivoliVredenburg are jointly organising the New Jazz series, featuring presentations of new albums. On Friday 6 June 2025 with Maarten Voerman and the album Haas.

Maarten Voortman has been playing the piano for as long as he can remember. After obtaining his bachelor at ArtEZ Arnhem, he graduated cum laude as Master of Music at the Conservatorium of Amsterdam, a long-cherished dream. As a player, his style is easily recognisable and personal. He has a firm grasp of the jazz tradition, a result of an ardent love and admiration for bebop pianist Bud Powell, who remains a role model to this day. Yet his range is as broad as his musical taste, ranging from jazz to pop and classical music.

In recent years, he has made a name for himself in the city of Amsterdam, as a fixture on the scene and an in-demand pianist. He organises his own band nights at Meneer de Wit Heeft Honger. He has toured with his Bud Powell Tribute project and recorded his first album Epilogue in 2017.

Maarten is now working on his new album, Haas, with Mo van der Does, Jeroen Batterink and Hendrik Mueller.
