Tony Overwater’s spirits

Tony Overwater is a Dutch bassist and composer in jazz and improvised music. He has always been fascinated by the spirituality of music; the magic of sound and improvisation. For this new ensemble, he carefully selected two female and two male musicians, each from different cultural backgrounds.

Turkish kemençe player Emine Bostancı and Iranian ud player Yasamin Shahhosseini belong to a young generation of musicians who are breaking musical boundaries and exploring new avenues of spirituality in music. German percussionist Ruven Ruppik and initiator and bassist Tony Overwater are also part of the ensemble. The music moves around the boundaries of Persian, Turkish and Arabic music, with plenty of room for improvisation, as well as unexpected twists.
