This concert programme focuses on the monumental splendour of multi-choral music – works in which vocal and instrumental groups from different directions fill the space with polyphonic sound. In these works, composers such as Josquin Desprez, Giovanni Gabrieli, Johann Hermann Schein, Johann Schelle, and Thomas Tallis show how, in the late Renaissance and early Baroque, multi-chorality was used to create not only musical complexity but also an overwhelming listening experience.
