Bart van de Woestijne: ZOMBIE

Bart van de Woestijne: ZOMBIE

A philosophical horror about our hunger for life

ZOMBIE is a philosophical horror piece that invites us to confront our mortality. Together with others, you stand on the shore, next to a lifeless body. Slowly, the dead body begins to move. As the zombie hungers tirelessly for life, you’re challenged to redefine the meaning of life and death.

What does this zombie reveal about ourselves? What question do those empty eyes pose?

The performance adds a philosophical dimension to the experience of disgust and aversion we associate with horror. The zombie transcends its fictional, mythical nature by pointing to a part of ourselves we’d rather not face: our future self. At the same time, it is precisely our mortality that brings us back to what connects all living beings: the will to exist.
