1. Home Bound

For ten days, Neude transforms into a place where artists, craftspeople and community groups weave diverse rope materials and their stories together to build a giant rope installation. As fibres intertwine, communities who do not typically share the same space collaborate in a choreography of knots that represents the social dialogue in the Netherlands. You’re invited to enter this woven landscape, meet the makers, learn their skills, hear their stories, or help make this tapestry, that is being woven by and for Utrecht.

2. SWEAT (anthem)

Moving between vulnerability and strength, individuality and collectivity, this dance performance asks how to persevere and stay empathetic in times of unrest. The work transforms exhaustion into shared rhythm and becomes an anthem of defiance and joy.

3. Engeki Quest

Explore Utrecht on foot with this flaneur-style adventure guided by an adventure book. Alone, you step into the perspective of fictional characters, uncover hidden streets, stories and social life, and experience the city in a deeply personal and immersive way, offering a new perspective for both locals and visitors.

4. Giselle: A Summary

Hana Sakai, former principal dancer with the National Ballet of Japan, performs the romantic classic Giselle while adopting the character of a YouTuber. Blending exquisite ballet with subtle humour and playful commentary, Sakai invites the audience into a world that grows increasingly complex and captivating, as the lines between reality and fiction gradually begin to blur.

5. LILITH.AEON

This immersive experience blends dance and AI. The audience moves around a giant LED cube, where their movements shape the performance of Lilith, a virtual being between death and digital rebirth. Each show is unique, creating a live dialogue between human and machine.

6. The Meeting

This performative installation explores how we experience closeness and distance. Amid the rush of passing travellers, you are invited to pause and truly meet the other and reflect on yourself. Through light, sound and interaction, the boundaries between the world around you and your own inner world will dissolve for just a short while.

Grzegorz Reske, artistic director SPRING Performing Arts Festival: ‘We’ve brought exciting performances from all corners of the globe – from Argentina, Palestine, Japan, Australia, and of course from the Netherlands – to Utrecht. This year’s festival theme is Extended Bodies/Expanded Minds: we push ourselves both physically and mentally, but at what price? Does this personal journey still make us feel connected to something greater? I can’t wait to invite our visitors, participants and artists reflect on these questions together as a temporary festival collective.’14 t/m 23 May, various locations, springutrecht.nl |
