Meet the street
By Jules van der Leeuw
Burgemeester Reigerstraat
Burgemeester Reigerstraat is slightly off the beaten track, but definitely worth a detour. Fondly referred to as ‘the village street’, it has loads of restaurants, shops, and pavement cafes. A few of them are listed below.
1) Next to the railway
Broodnodig
This branch of Broodnodig is renowned for its intimate terrace next to the railway line. A great place for coffee, scrumptious rolls, and home-made cakes.
2) Dining table
Zinin
Natasja Stoon and Mijntje Bos: ‘Our home furnishings shop complements all the restaurants and food stores in this street very nicely. Zinin is all about dining; from beautiful dinner services and linen tablecloths to tea, coffee, and chocolate.
3) Pintxos
Cervezeria Boulevard
This Spanish beer garden also serves a wide selection of pintxos, which are slightly different from the usual tapas. On Fridays, the tables make way for a turntable and DJ.
4) Community burger
Buurten in Oost
Erik Derksen: ‘The name of this café/bar describes what it is: a place where locals drop in to catch up with the latest gossip. We have a large heated terrace and our dish-of-the-day changes daily. Our ‘Community Burger’ is a firm favourite.’
