At the age of 14, director Nick Broomfield coincidentally met guitarist Brian Jones on a train. Jones, one of the founders of The Rolling Stones in 1962, was at the peak of his success, with the world at his feet. This film sheds light on the tumultuous seven years leading up to 1969, during which Brian Jones had to leave the band. Shortly thereafter, he drowned in his swimming pool. Through revealing interviews with all the main players and previously unreleased archival footage, the renowned filmmaker in “The Stones and Brian Jones” explores how the creative musical genius Brian Jones faded into the shadows of history.

Between 1962 and 1969, Brian Jones had become increasingly unhinged and unpredictable, something he likely never imagined at the start of his career. With his sex appeal and charisma, he was the undisputed leader of the band, even though he wasn’t the lead singer. Alcohol and drugs put an end to this, and by the mid-60s, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards formed the creative core of the band. The documentary tells the personal story of Brian Jones, initially the key to the success of one of the world’s greatest rock ‘n roll bands. The extensive archival material, with advice from former Stones bassist Bill Wyman, captures the freedom and exuberance of the 1960s. Broomfield also sheds light on the relationships and rivalries within The Rolling Stones in those early years.
