Orchestra Lagrandt: The World of Yesterday

Orchestra Lagrandt: The World of Yesterday

Orchestra Lagrandt presents The World of Yesterday, a program exploring the evolution of orchestral sound around the turn of the 20th century. During this period, performance style underwent a profound shift: from a flexible, expressive approach to a more standardized and refined orchestral sound.

Each work on the program reflects a different musical school of the time — from late Romanticism to Impressionism and Neoclassicism. With music by Richard Wagner, Arnold Schoenberg, Gabriel Fauré, Maurice Ravel, Igor Stravinsky and Benjamin Britten, the program traces a range of contrasting sound worlds and performance styles.

Performed on historical instruments, the concert follows performance practices from the time the works were composed. Differences in vibrato, phrasing and articulation — often absent from modern orchestral playing — become clearly audible.
