A Milestone Celebration with Purpose

The concert marks the 20th anniversary of RCUI, celebrating two decades of international service with an afternoon that promises to be both, entertaining and impactful. The event features the renown Britten Youth String Orchestra, conducted by Loes Visser, with acclaimed violinist Carla Leurs performing Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story – Suite for Violin Solo and String Orchestra.

A Unique “Be the Baton” Conductor Competition

In an innovative twist, the concert will feature the “Be the Baton” competition, where sponsors and special guests can step onto the podium to conduct the orchestra. Confirmed participants include Helene Michaud, Chairwoman of the Board of ASAP Foundation, RCUI’s partner organization for the EmpowerHer project. This unprecedented opportunity allows participants to lead the professional Britten Youth String Orchestra, making this a truly unique spectacle for classical music and community service.

“This isn’t just about conducting an orchestra,” says Gerhard Blab, RCUI President. “It’s about conducting change and orchestrating empowerment for young women who deserve

the right to education and dignity.”

Addressing a Critical Global Issue

The EmpowerHer project addresses systemic barriers preventing girls in Burkina Faso from accessing education. According to UNESCO, 1 in 10 girls in Sub-Saharan Africa misses school during menstruation due to inadequate facilities and supplies. The funds raised will change that, so thank you for supporting us!
