4 May is Remembrance Day in the Netherlands. At 8 p.m. the Dutch observe a two-minute silence to commemorate everyone who died in World War II and subsequent war situations. Restaurants and bars are silent too. The next day, 5 May, is Liberation Day. This is a day of celebration and music. The Bevrijdingsfestival in Park Transwijk is the ideal place to down a pint while watching live performances by mainly Dutch artistes. The festival is free.
