Following its great success last winter at the Oude Kerk in Delft, Luminiscence returns. From 7 October, Utrecht’s Jacobikerk will provide the setting for the internationally acclaimed light and music experience for three months. Spectacular 360° light projections, live classical music and a narration of the story of the church and the city bring innovation, heritage and music together in an immersive experience that has been highly praised by Dutch audiences.

A new story is being developed especially for the Jacobikerk, drawing on the rich history of this historic monument. The church was literally caught in the line of fire during the Eighty Years’ War, and traces of Spanish cannonballs can still be seen in the building today. It lost its spire in the storm of 1674 and for centuries served as a landmark for pilgrims setting off from here on their journey to Santiago de Compostela. These and other stories come together in the performance.
