75 years after the invention of the spray can, we take a fresh look at graffiti: not as an isolated art form, but as part of a broader artistic development. ‘Graffiti’ reveals how graffiti and contemporary art have influenced each other for decades.
About Graffiti
This exhibition shows how graffiti, which originated among young people in New York, grew into an influential force in the development of contemporary art. And vice versa: discover how contemporary artists have explored, applied and further developed this visual language in new forms and media. Graffiti challenges traditional notions of art, where it belongs and who it is for.
More than 120 works by seventy artists take you on a journey through seventy years of artistic development.
